An Unusual Island
Brancusi would have liked this island, made from fallen oak and a hand-carved cherry log painted white. The honed Carrara marble counter is fitted with a 23 ¾-inch D-shaped undermount sink from Kingston Brass. A one-handled faucet by Elements of Design takes up less space and incorporates a pull-out spray. GE's 18-inch Profile dishwasher is adjacent. Walls are painted Benjamin Moore's Super White.

Kitchen Overview
Liebherr's 30-inch refrigerator is counter-depth, so it makes for a smooth line against the wall. A ProLine hood is paired with Capital's 30-inch Culinarian gas range. Ikea's Lansa handles give a contemporary edge to Hanssem's Shaker cabinets. Wooden stools would have competed with the wood on the island, so the designers chose Melanie swivel stools from Home Decorators Collection. The brushed-aluminum finish ties back into the stainless-steel appliances.
